Licensed Child Care - Malaika runs a state licensed childcare for children ages 6 weeks through 3 years in age. The program participates in the Wisconsin Shares Program (W-2) or which the majority of children are eligible. The program is designed such that there is an overall child specific development plan for each of the age groups. The teachers plan their weeks activities in advance with the design criteria taking into account each child's social, emotional and intellectual development needs. Literacy is promoted starting with the youngest of children and progress through to the 3 year old class room.

Three year old Academic Program - We offer a special half day academic program for children whose parents may not qualify or who have choosen not to participate in the W-2 program but who are otherwise unable to pay for schooling. This program is the first step into structured learning and emphasis sounds, shape, letters, etc...

4 and 5 year old Kindergarten - Malaika is a licensed participant in the MIlwaukee Parental School Choice program. We offer a full day 4 and 5 year old program. The teachers are all certified instructors and the class sizes are kept small to promote individualized attention for each child. We target a student to adult ratio of 8:1 for this young age to recognize that the children are coming to us with a very wide range of individual abilities and experiences. Our goal is that upon completion of the K-5 program our children are capable of reading, writing, problem solving and have the social and emotional skills to adapt to a larger class environement. Many of our children test out at a beginning 2nd grade level when they leave Malaika.

Meals Program - We recognize that nutrition is a critical component of a childs development. Malaika serves all of its children breakfast, lunch and a snack. Our meals are prepared in our own kitchen and meet all for the Federal standards for nutrional composition.

Transportation - An unfortunate reality of many of the children we serve is that they would not be able to attend without transportation. Malaika transports about half of the children we serve each day on one of our two school buses.

Music Enrichment - Through a partnership with the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music, Malaika offers a weekly music enrichment program for each class. Studies have shown the music stimulates the brain and is a critical component in helping to develop the whole person.
